This game actually sounds interesting. Once upon a  time, I hankered for every JRPG that came out on the market. I played each release of the Final Fantasy series religiously (then fell off the boat at 12 which was really good and then what? The folks at Squenix suddenly threw up their hands and agreed not to make any good games anymore?) Now I can barely be bothered with console games.
Could be because I have priorities above spending $300 on a new gen console, but I barely even touch my PS2 anymore.
That said. OMG SOMETHING NEW AND REFRESHING AND RELEVANT TO ME IN CONSOLE GAMING. HOLD ME.
Also blaaaaah to everyone complaining that the game doesn’t represent THEM and over represents others (Lolololol, over representing minority groups…). Baby steps, okay? Like the previous poster said, we SHOULD be striving for balance. Who said they weren’t going to touch on faith in the game or at least being more broad-minded and respectful about faith and less stereotypical and one dimensional. The game isn’t even out yet, sheesh.

What gets me is that a lot of people are whining about there not being any white people in the game. THERE WILL BE. Prince Raphael (who is a major character!) is white as all get-out. There’s another one that I can’t remember at the moment, but it’s not like white folk are going to be excluded. They’ll just be less front-and-center than most people are used to seeing in a game. Which is just fine with me, since it’s about damn time.

Why are people even getting their pantaloons in a twist when the game isn’t even out yet. The article was so vague but it was full of promise that it was going to try and include demographics normally ignored by the mainstream gaming industry.
Isn’t that enough for us to throw our arms in the air and cheer. We’re acknowledged and someone is trying. The game. IS. NOT. OUT. YET.
If they fuck it up and it becomes a mockery of everything we non-white, non straight, non male, who are not in the age range of 18-35 have wanted and asked for again and again, THEN we can bitch.

Well, I was initially under the impression that there would be no white people, because their blog is fairly defensive about their stance. It’s borderline heavy-handed, and while I certainly understand why they would be that way, they should let the game speak for itself a bit. I could almost see it being discouraging for Caucasians who might be interested in playing the game. I’m not complaining, mind you, I can just see how folks could initially get the wrong impression with how they’re advertising the game and promoting it on their blog.
One of the things I’m also not clear on is whether or not there will actually be any straight people. The MC and their love interest are both genderqueer, and while that doesn’t bother me, I could see how some POC would prefer to perhaps have the option of seeing heterosexuals in the game as well. I don’t do video games, but I do write novels, and I have varying relationships within, even polyamory. I’m interested to see how far they go with the game.
So it’ll be interesting to see how the game turns out. I look forward to learning more as they continue development.
